Dinah Hobbs

I am an artist and art teacher based in the West Midlands. I am currently exploring the theme of landscape with a focus on shadow, light and reflections. Much of my landscape work so far is about the view of shadows and reflections as seen from footpaths and canal tow paths.

My aim is to create rich images which the viewer will want to examine closely and keep discovering nuances of texture and colour. With that in mind, I include mixed media and sgraffito techniques to give surface texture to my paintings. I like to experiment with different ways in which to describe rippled water, tangled undergrowth, or the complex patterns made by branches and twigs against the sky. Unexpected, beautiful patterns made by shadows cast by trees are emphasised.
